Christmas Pics

The kids were ecstatic to get a baby kitten this year for Christmas! It wasn't really planned, it was a routine trip to Petsmart the day before Christmas Eve, and I walked out with an 8-week old kitten! I've always been a sucker for kitties peering at you from a cage. The kids have been asking for one for a few years, Anna especially has had it on her Santa list every year. I told her before Christmas that she already had a cat (Simon is older and not exactly a "kid" cat)... and her reply: "well I can't really hold Simon and carry him around, now can I?" Touche.

I've never seen the kids as excited as when they got him. Unfortunately though it came with a lot of fights and tears on Christmas Eve because one kid was holding it too long, or taking it from another kid. At one point it was Abby's turn to hold him, so we had Anna crying downstairs and Nick crying upstairs because "it wasn't fair" that they didn't get to hold him long enough. So it was an interesting day playing referee and consoling some sad kids when it wasn't their turn. Lucas was another story, he wanted nothing to do with him! The cat came home sneezing, which for some reason scared the heck out of him. He would cry HARD every time it would happen! That day I was certainly questioning my decision to bring in this new family member! Ha.

Its all better now though, the cat is over the sneezing, so Lucas is ok with the him, and excitedly says, "meow" every time he hears him enter the room. I emphasize the word "OK" with him... he's still a little nervous, he wants to pet it ONCE, then immediately says "down!" He's more partial to the older cat who is much more lazy and predictable!

The kitten was so tiny when we got him... during the first vet visit, he weighed 1.75 lbs. Wow! This tiny 8 week old kitten that fit in the palm of my hand weighed more than Lucas at birth. How surreal.
