I thought this picture was appropriate for the stories that follow. I am posting a few long entries at once, we’ve had a very active couple of weeks with a lot to report, including our trip to New York City last weekend to see Marcy, the ABM Guru. I actually wrote an update on Saturday while we were there, but wasn't able to get it posted until now. Get ready for some reading, if you’re still interested! To start at the beginning, start at the bottom with the June 12 entry and work up.Here's a few things we are seeing already from our therapy weekend:
- His left arm is extremely loose... noticeably different and improved in just a week.
- Today he played peek-a-boo with me completely with his left arm covering his eyes (without the splint on). And I didn't ask him to use the left. :-)
- His legs are little floppy, flexible legs like babies are supposed to have. I can really tell when I sit him on the bed, he is so much more flexible and his legs can cross in the sitting position. A lot of this is Carla's work, but this is a long way from his rigid inflexibiilty from several months ago, and more noticeable since New York.
- We've noticed he is trying to balance himself more when sitting -- he never associated using his arms to balance before, but after Marcy worked on this, he is a lot more aware of his ability to control. This happened almost immediately in the hotel on Sunday, he was sitting on Bran's belly and using his arm out to the side to stabilize.
- Even more speech, mimicking, and babbling than the week before. He's been remarkably happy and eating well (although I personally attribute that to diet)
- AND -- Lucas can now say "ohhhh" (thanks to Marcy, not the speech therapist!) :-)
Pretty exciting!

WOW WOW WOW! I was so happy to read all about your ABM sessions with Marcy. Our practitioner knows Marcy (we met her at a seminar. We were going to take marc to see her but funds are a bit tight these days, my husband actaully works a few mins from Manhattan. We were offered a session with Anat at Marcys studio but had to decline the $400 session. The ABM is amazing and I know its the reson Marc is doing so well. I am very happy to see that Lucas is progressing. He is a beautiful boy and a gift from God
Congratulations Bran, Angie, and Lucas!! What an exciting post. Lucas, I am so happy that you are responding so well with ABM. Keep up the awesome work.

What an awesome post! Im so happy your little boy responded so well to the weekend. You have inspired me to contact Marcy, we are in NJ and we have been doing weekly sessions with a "student" of Marcys and my son has been responding very well. His therapist has been asking us to take a few intensive sessions with Marcy and I think now I just might!
Angie,
I just got caught up and read all of your posts and I am so excited for the progress Lucas has made and your (and Bran's) decision to try the ABM. I especially liked the comment Marcy made about Lucas showing a sense of humor and reacting to humor. I truly believe that is a sign of intelligence and it just put a big smile on my face. Of course he's smart--look at his parents! I know it's hard when you have to make those decisions about what to do, especially when you are hearing so many different opinions. I say stick with the gameplan of going with your gut instinct. I admire the tenacity that you have shown in the knowledge, care, and options for Lucas! Oh, did I mention how darn cute he is? Love you guys (and miss you)! Marcia
